  • Duke University is a private research university located in Durham, North Carolina.
  • Top majors at the university include Economics, Public Policy Studies, Biology, Psychology, and Biomedical Engineering.
  • Duke has won national championships in men’s basketball, men’s soccer, men’s lacrosse, women’s golf, and women’s tennis. Their mascot is the Blue Devil. 
  • Duke's biggest rivalry is by far the neighboring University of North Carolina. At the annual UNC vs Duke game, students tent out in front of the stadium weeks in advance in order to get tickets to the game. Tickets to Duke basketball games are free for all students.
  • DukeEngage is a program offered by the university through which students can apply to go on service trips for free. It was established by a grant from the Gates family.
  • 70% of classes have fewer than 19 students.
  • Duke is surrounded by a 7,000 acre forest called Duke Forest that is used for classes as well as for recreation.
  • In addition to majors and minors, Duke also offers certificate programs.
  • The campus consists of two architectural styles: West Campus is Gothic, while East Campus, where the freshman live, is Gregorian.
  • Some famous alumni include Retta from Parks and Recreation, Tim Cook, Dan Ariely, Mike Posner, Melinda Gates, Ron Paul, and Rand Paul.
